Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they indicate for your site?
If you wish to keep some content concealed from the public eye, you could switch on password protection for a specific folder - either the primary Internet site folder or a different one below it. Whenever this feature is turned on, a pop-up will appear each time a person attempts to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link that goes a few levels deeper, so login info shall be needed for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg if you have protected only the domain.com folder. When the credentials aren't valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there isn't any way to get around this restriction, so you can rest assured that no one shall be able access the protected content. The option may be beneficial in a number of scenarios - if only a number of people must be able to see certain files, if you are developing a site and you do not want people to see it prior to it being completed, etc.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
All of our
Linux cloud hosting packages include a really handy tool that will allow you to protect any folder in your account from unauthorized access with just two clicks. As soon as you log in to your Hepsia hosting CP, you will just have to navigate to the Password Protection section, to choose the main domain or subdomain, to specify the folder that has to be protected - the root folder or some folder under it, and then to type in the username and the password which should be used in order to access the content in question. The function will be active right away, so in case you make an effort to open the folder/website, you will be prompted to type in the login details. You can create or remove multiple usernames for the exact same folder, if required. When you go to the File Manager section, all password-protected folders shall be shown with a small padlock icon.
