Dot NAME Domains

Started in 2001, the .NAME generic top-level extension is the single TLD meant for personal websites only. These domain names can be personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other titles people are popular by. At first, only 3rd-level registrations were possible, so if you planned to register john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and second-level registrations were also allowed. Existing 3rd-level names remained working.
